Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Monday, January 9.
Wood urged to move
Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has told Leeds United to sign Toon flop Chris Wood. A stinker in the FA Cup against Sheffield Wednesday has not deterred potential suitors in the transfer market.
Robinson, who spent six years at Elland Road, would like to see Wood rejoin the club he left in 2017. “They can’t make do without a striker,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News. “They’ve made do for too long. Rodrigo, Dan James, Jack Harrison, Patrick’s played there when he’s fit and they’ve made do.

“Go out and spend on a decent, proven striker. Not one who scores six or eight goals a year. Not one who plays as a wide player. Go and get someone who can challenge for the number nine spot every week and score goals.
“Somebody like Chris Wood. If Callum Wilson is fit and comes back for them, go and spend a few quid on bringing Wood back to keep them in the Premier League.”
Diaby still on radar
German outlet Bild claims Toon chiefs are still interested in Moussa Diaby. Last summer, a reported £50million price tag proved the stumbling block in any deal.
Newcastle switched their attention to Alexander Isak but are still short of options out wide. As it stands, Jacob Murphy, Ryan Fraser, Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron remain the club’s wide options.
After a slow start to the season, Diaby was beginning to replicate his previous form before the World Cup break. It is unclear whether Bayer Leverkusen have lowered their demands for the Frenchman.
McTominay links questioned
CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs is unsure whether Manchester United would be prepared to sell Scott McTominay to a top-four rival. Reports have linked the midfielder with a Tyneside move in recent weeks.
“Somebody like McTominay coming in could add that tactical versatility, so I don’t think it’s a bad signing,” he told NUFC Matters.
“Now we have to wait and see whether 1) Newcastle move – there’s definitely interest there. And 2) if Manchester United are prepared to sell. Are they now prepared to sell for a rival who is competing with them for a top-four place?”
