Newcastle United told Dominik Szoboszlai's €70m release clause as Howe gets green light on spending

Newcastle United have been heavily linked with Hungary captain Dominik Szoboszlai after reports in eastern Europe.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder is currently starring for RB Leipzig in Germany and has been watched by Newcastle on numerous occasions. But as things stand Szoboszlai is one on a long list of options for Eddie Howe this summer.

Over in Hungary, there is already talk of Szoboszlai getting a contract at Newcastle of £190,000 per week but talks aren't at that point yet. Those type of figures would make Szoboszlai the highest earner at United and with Bruno Guimaraes waiting to have his own new deal confirmed, Newcastle chiefs won't commit to that type of deal for a new player until their own Brazil international star is tied down.

But Szoboszlai's record is very good in Germany with 18 goals and 22 assists from midfield in the Bundesliga. He fits the bill in terms of the type of character Howe is looking for.

Howe wants players who are eager to prove themselves in the Premier League and Szoboszlai ticks that box. He has both the potential and experience to bring to the table - the perfect combination.

The midfielder has a €70million release clause in his contract and has made it clear his future is up in the air. When asked by a reporter if he was staying in Germany, he said: "I didn't say that."

Newcastle chiefs are holding a series of meetings on recruitment with Howe hoping to submit his A-list of targets in the coming days. Securing Champions League football is massive for Howe's budget but the head coach has already had the green light to bring in new stars this summer.
