Newcastle United to change kit sponsors as club review all existing commercial deals

Newcastle United are set to unveil a new shirt sponsor which will be in place for the 2023/24 season as the club review the commercial deals they inherited from Mike Ashley.

Fun88 jumped on board with Newcastle in 2017 after the club sent a commercial team to the Far East, including former managing director Lee Charnley, to seek revenue. But the sponsorship is set to end two years earlier than planned.

Incoming CEO Darren Eales is taking a long hard look at the club's commercial partnership and there are also unconfirmed reports that former Arsenal man Peter Silverston will join the club in a high profile role. United's new owners inherited a small commercial team but that is set to grow.

Silverston was at Arsenal when the club hooked up with Adidas on a five-year kit deal worth £300million. United's current deal with Castore runs until 2024 as things stand and is worth £5million per year.

Eales is set to meet up with supporters groups to discuss what happens next at Newcastle and those discussions will include "open dialogue" with fans on the stadium naming rights.

Eales said: "Clearly, there’s a history (Sports Direct Arena) and it didn’t work for a number of reasons but I think communication was a key one.

"For us, it’s about talking with our supporters and being open by saying ‘look, we all want to get to this place and to get to this place we need to bring in commercial revenues’.

"There’s always going to be a little bit of a trade-off in certain areas. I’m just being hypothetical here, we would talk and have a dialogue around stadium and it might be that it’s not a naming right but it’s an association naming rights.

"That might be something that everybody is comfortable with but there has to be dialogue and there has to be an explanation."

Commercial deals could include link ups with firms from Saudi Arabia as Newcastle look to grow their brand.
