Michael Bridges is expecting a tough afternoon for Newcastle United on Sunday as they travel to face Tottenham. The trip to North London will be a real test of how far Eddie Howe has brought the side as they look to build momentum heading into next season.
Teams like Spurs are the calibre of opponent that the Magpies want to eventually be competing with and Sunday’s clash is the perfect opportunity for the visitors to make a statement of their intent. Although, it certainly won’t be easy as Antonio Conte’s side come into the game in great form having won four of their last five in the Premier League.
Bridges expects that form to continue as he believes the quality of their two main attacking outlets will prove the difference. “This is going to be an interesting game. Eddie Howe and his team absolutely flying and [Antonio] Conte having that win, lose, win, lose [record] so you just never know what you’re going to get,” he told the GegenPod.

“It’s going to be a very interesting game, I think it’s going to be a cracker. I’m going to have to say Spurs [will win] this one with home advantage and with the form that Son [Heung-min] and Harry Kane are in.”
It’s a game that holds much more importance for Spurs than Newcastle as Conte’s side are still chasing a finish within the Champions League places. Although, that isn’t to say that the game is inconsequential for United who, firstly, still need a couple of positive results to fully secure top-flight safety and, secondly, want to finish as high up the table as possible.
A place in the top half of the Premier League will still very much be the aim at the end of the season for Howe and his players and victory at Tottenham would give them a great chance of achieving that.
