Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe sprung a couple of surprises on his first team sheet of the season. The Toon boss went with Nick Pope in goal while Kieran Trippier took the armband and Jamaal Lascelles was benched.
Fabian Schar and Dan Burn were in the centre of the defence with Sven Botman left out of the starting XI. The Dutchman had to be content with a place on the sidelines while Matt Targett was the obvious choice at left-back.
Joe Willock, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton made up the midfield while Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin led the line of attack.
