Newcastle United transfer target James Maddison admits there was a 'sigh of relief' after the end of the transfer window at Leicester City. The one-cap England international was one of a host of Foxes stars linked with an exit over the course of the summer.
Wesley Fofana ultimately secured a reported £75 million switch to Chelsea, while Youri Tielemans was tipped to depart with less than a year left on his contract. However, the Belgian international remains at the King Power Stadium along with Maddison, who was the subjected of two failed bids from the Magpies.
Brendan Rodgers outlined his frustrations throughout the transfer window, with financial limitations preventing the Leicester boss from strengthening his squad. Wout Faes arrived as Fofana's replacement on deadline day, with free agent Alex Smithies the only other senior arrival.

Leicester have endured a nightmare start to the Premier League season and currently sit bottom of the table, having suffered a heavy 6-2 defeat at Tottenham on Saturday. Maddison scored in the latest loss, and was asked about the unsettling impact of the summer window on the squad.
He told Sky Sports via HITC: "After it shuts, I think there is a bit of a sigh of relief, especially some of the staff at football clubs. I think it definitely can be [a chance for others to shine given not many players joined].
"In tough times, you need your big players and your top players to grab the team. And stick the team on your back, at times.
“Sometimes you need a magical moment from a player. One magical moment, a goal outside of the box into the top corner, which can just kick your season.
“As a big player in this team, that’s my responsibility. That’s why I will keep trying to score and assist, as much as I can. But it has to come from everywhere.”
