Newcastle United talks with Castore ongoing as Magpies explore new commercial avenues

Newcastle United would have to reach a settlement with Castore if they were to end their deal with the UK-based sports manufacturers.

The Magpies have ended their agreement with main kit sponsor Fun88 early and are currently looking at options ahead of the 2023/24 season. An exciting tie-in with Saudia ahead of next week's visit to Riyadh will see competition winners get the chance to meet Eddie Howe and the squad during the club's warm weather training camp.

Saudia were on Tyneside ahead of the 1-0 win over Chelsea as they took part in promotional work in the build-up to Newcastle's journey to the Middle East. The club's CEO Darren Eales has talks planned with Castore after the new board inherited the deal with the Andy Murray-backed clothing brand.

As things stand the deal agreed with former owner Mike Ashley sees Castore on board with United until 2024. But the deal is worth just £5million a year.

In comparison Man United's deal with Adidas is worth £750million over a 10 year period. New incoming commercial chief Peter Silverstone has excellent links with Adidas and Toon supporters still crave a return to the famous brand to this day.

Newcastle released a statement last month which read: "During his tenure at Arsenal, Peter led several successful commercial initiatives, including the onboarding and development of Arsenal's Adidas partnership, and the signing and extension of Arsenal's sleeve partnership with Visit Rwanda."

When asked about the Castore deal recently CEO Darren Eales said: "They’re a company that I’m going to go and visit. I want to chat with them, and talk with them, and try to be the best partners that we can with them, and vice versa. I’m a great believer that it’s all about having that communication.

"From my perspective, we’ve got Castore as a partner that has shown commitment to the club from before I was here before ownership was here. And, from my perspective, they’ve been great club partners, but we’ll always look because you can always improve.

"It’ll be ‘how can we help Castore? How can Castore help the club?’ We’re working together, we’re partners. It’s great for both parties the better we can do."

Newcastle would need full agreement from Castore if they were to end the deal early as they did with Fun88. But with a new commercial team in place there would be no shortage of takers in terms of new kit companies.
