Newcastle United supporters make no excuses as Aston Villa 'batter' Magpies

Newcastle United fans were left disappointed following the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa this afternoon. Unai Emery's side sent out a statement to the rest of the European contenders with a big win over Eddie Howe's side.

The hosts started the game in blistering fashion and could have been 3-0 up at the break. Ollie Watkins hit the post after just 30 seconds before Ramsey eventually opened the scoring minutes later.

The Aston Villa youngster then saw his effort cannon off the crossbar just moments later with Newcastle at sea. The Toon managed to make it through to the break just a goal down.

Eddie Howe rung the changes not long after the break with Callum Wilson and Miggy Almiron replacing Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy and had three good chances in quick succession. However, the Toon were given a reprieve with Watkins putting the ball in the back of the net, only for VAR to rule him to be offside in the build-up.

There was no doubt over Watkins goal moments later, with Villa working the ball well down the left and picking out the England international in the middle who rolled Dan Burn and blasted the ball beneath Nick Pope. The Villa striker added another in the dying embers of the game to put the result beyond any doubt.

Here's what Newcastle United fans had to say on social media:

@NUFCTalkPod said: "Bad day at the office, they are allowed."

@LLagay2011 tweeted: "Bad day at the office. Three hard away games and taken six points. Get back to our strengths and if we beat Spurs all will be forgotten."

@tynetakes tweeted: "Rare saying this at the moment but they simply wanted it more today. First to everything. first 30 secs set tone of game. Midfield was so poor- Bruno clearly not fit- miles off it and we missed the legs of Longstaff. Our defence was beyond words. Still in our hands with a huge game next week."

@milessteven001 said: "Totally second best today. Villa, to their credit, were excellent, but we didn’t even match their energy or their effort. We were sloppy with our passing, sluggish with our tackles and spent the game just watching Villa run past us. Has to be better next week."

@halliday_9 said: "Hated every minute of that. We were awful. Move on though."

@SeanyFinnerty tweeted: "Battered. Might be the wake up we needed after that first half against Brentford. Big chance to make it right against Spurs next week."

@AngelNUFC tweeted: "Villa were much better, this was the worst game we've played all season. We need to move on and forget about it, I'm sure Howe will have them fired up for Spurs."
