Newcastle United supporters hail 'massive' West Ham demolition after 5-1 victory

Newcastle United supporters have hailed a 'massive' Premier League victory after they beat West Ham United 5-1 in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The Magpies started the game in third place and that is where they stayed thanks to a Callum Wilson brace either side of half-time, two more from Joelinton and a further strike from Alexander Isak. Eddie Howe's two changes to the starting XI both found the back of the net as they justified his team rotation.

A superb cross from Allan Saint-Maximin picked out Wilson inside the area as he headed home after just six minutes to open the scoring. Joelinton would add another in the 13th minute after he was superbly played in behind the West Ham defence by Fabian Schar.

The Brazilian calmly took the ball past Lukasz Fabianski and tapped into an empty net. Despite the flag being raised for offside, VAR would eventually award the goal after a short review.

Kurt Zouma would head in from a West Ham corner just five minutes before the break, but Wilson soon restored the two-goal cushion just 20 seconds after the interval. Jacob Murphy robbed Nayef Aguerd of the ball inside his own area before squaring the ball to the Newcastle forward for the simplest of finishes into an open goal.

After being brought on in the second-half, Isak capitalised on a howler by Fabianski as he raced out of his goal to allow the Swede to the lob ball into an unguarded net from 25-yards-out. Joelinton rounded off the scoring in the dying stages with a gut-busting run to carry the ball into area and rifle it past the West Ham shot-stopper into the bottom corner.

And as the full-time whistle blew, supporters could not help but relish in what they saw as a simply sensational result for Newcastle in their push for a top four finish.
