Newcastle United supporters frustrated as Eddie Howe's side wasteful at Manchester City

Newcastle United supporters rued their side's lack of cutting edge in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City. Pep Guardiola's men inflicted a third consecutive defeat on the Magpies as Eddie Howe and Co failed to overcome their Wembley heartbreak.

As has often been the case in 2023, Newcastle failed to score despite creating several decent opportunities. Callum Wilson blundered in the first half from close range while Joelinton should have equalised shortly before City's second.

The Magpies have failed to score in five of their last 12 appearances - hardly conducive to a Champions League finish. Just one win in eight Premier League games also triggers alarm bells around St James' Park ahead of a mammoth clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

One highlight, however, was Alexander Isak. The Swede impressed again as a substitute and calls will now ramp up for him to start next weekend.

Toon supporters face an agonising wait while other top-flight fixtures take place across the weekend. By Monday night, Newcastle could be as low as seventh - despite sitting third in January. This is how fans reacted to the City defeat at the full-time whistle.

@Svensational: Please for the love of god just have them banging shots at the goal for every session this week.

@agbnufc_: Just felt like a massive waste of time. Didn't learn anything we didn't already know.

@ToonLifeNUFC: Start our best 11 with Targett, Maxi, Isak & Gordon next time please. Terrible selection today

@HwtlNufc: Starting eleven HAS to change next week

@R125Lucas: Flat since the restart. 90% of these players need to look at themselves and get off their winter holiday before we bottle everything we’ve worked so hard to get. Botman and Burn not good enough defensively at the moment Wilson useless all game.

@tynetakes: Hard luck thought it was a decent performance and we simply just didn’t take our chances which is a recurring theme! Positives to take forward however ahead of 2 big games. Keep the faith

@TaylorandPayne: Front three of Maxi, Isak and Gordon for the next game please

@JoeNUFC: Targett, Isak, Maxi and Gordon all have to start next week mind
