Newcastle United supporters create Bruno Guimaraes echo after Brazil exit World Cup

Newcastle United supporters cannot believe Bruno Guimaraes watched from the sidelines as Brazil crashed out of the World Cup. Croatia stunned the pre-match favourites, equalising in the second half of extra time before sending them home via penalties.

An early flight home for Brazil has blown the entire tournament wide open. Most pundits backed the five-time champions to clinch the World Cup before a ball had been kicked.

The remaining nations - including England - will all fancy their chance of winning the biggest prize of all. However, Newcastle fans are all saying the same thing after watching Guimaraes warm the bench.

Tyneside has been wowed by the Brazilian since his big-money move from Lyon. His form in a black-and-white shirt is one of the key reasons why the Magpies currently sit third in the Premier League.

Despite enjoying cult-like status at St James’ Park, Guimaraes does not receive the same adulation for his national side. Brazil boss Tite adopted a super-attacking formation, with Lucas Paqueta, Neymar, Vinicius Junior, Raphinha and Richarlison.

Manchester United talisman Casemiro is used as the anchor but Croatia managed to capitalise on a lack of balance in midfield. Toon supporters were frustrated for Guimaraes - going as far as to say Brazil “deserve” their early exit for snubbing the midfield maestro.

@nufcsanjay: Bruno lad, get yourself back to Benton ASAP. We've got a Premier League title to win son.

@NUFCcook: Don’t play Bruno Guimaraes, this is what you get

@TrueGeordieTG: Bruno Guimaraes was basically ignored by the Brazil manager while being one of the most in form midfielders in the world. What a waste, this could’ve been his tournament. Glad he’s coming home with no injuries though

@JakeJackmann: Bruno is going to come back with a point to prove and tear it up. Can’t say that’s a bad thing.

@NatashaNUFC: THIS IS WHAT U GET FOR NOT PLAYING BRUNO

@Man_about_Toon: Unbelievable scenes! Brazil sort of deserve it for not playing Bruno and acting generally quite arrogant all tournament
