Newcastle United 'step forward' for James Maddison as playmaker told to leave Leicester City

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has told James Maddison to 'get on the A1' to Newcastle after Leicester City rejected two bids from the Magpies. Eddie Howe's side have had two bids knocked back for the Foxes playmaker as they look to continue their summer rebuild.

The one-time England international has been told to leave leave the King Power this summer with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar this summer. Mills claims that the Foxes are on a downward trajectory having failed to sign a player so far this summer.

Mills told talkSPORT: "It's step forwards, you've got to look where the two clubs are going. Okay, if you're going to go on where they finished last year, it's the only argument you have.

"Newcastle is a club on an upward trajectory, Leicester at the moment is on a downward trajectory. They're about to lose Kasper Schmeichel - their goalkeeper - they're losing players left, right and centre.

"They still haven't bought a player in. [Youri] Tielemans could go, [Wesley] Fofana could go. Leicester at the moment looks like a club that's heading down. Their recruitment has been non-existent.

"Newcastle, with everything that they're putting in place - building for the future - it would be a great move for him. It's a sort of player that Newcastle fans would love. A bit of creativity in that midfield. If I was him I'd get myself on that A1 and start driving."
