Newcastle United stance on Dean Henderson story as promising back-up goalkeeper leaves Magpies

Newcastle United have played down talk that England international goalkeeper Dean Henderson spent yesterday on Tyneside talking to Eddie Howe about a summer loan move.

Club sources have indicated that while incoming transfers are being assessed, Henderson, at least for now, remains a Manchester United player.

The Manchester United shot-stopper has been linked to the Magpies before but a switch to St James' Park is not believed to be at an advanced stage. Former Grimsby and Sheff United loanee Henderson made just three appearances this season for the Red Devils.

At 25, he is certainly in need of game-time but Howe praised Martin Dubravka at a Press conference only last Friday. Decisions do need to be made on Karl Darlow - linked with Middlesbrough - and Freddie Woodman, who could join AFC Bournemouth but Howe will hold discussions with both players soon.

However, former Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Jake Turner has moved on to pastures new. Turner has impressed when in the Under-23s for Newcastle but leaves without a first-team opportunity after loans at Colchester and Morecambe.

However, he is certain to attract a lot of interest in the EFL. Turner said farewell via an Instagram post this week: "I also would like to thank Newcastle for the last three years, it’s been filled with plenty of ups and downs.

"I’ve met some great people and am grateful for the opportunities I experienced on both my loans while being here. "Time for the next chapter in my career wherever that may be, I can’t wait for the new challenges and new beginnings."
