Newcastle United St James' Park has 'the best atmosphere in the Premier League'

Results from a fan survey have ranked St James’ Park as the best in terms of atmosphere out of all the grounds in the Premier League. Averages from reviews on footballgroundmap.com have Newcastle United’s ground at the very top of the rankings for atmosphere in England’s top division.

Newcastle have amassed a four-star ranking from close to 60,000 reviews of their home atmosphere, a rating which is only shared with Leeds United and newcomer Nottingham Forest out of all 20 Premier League teams.

The Toon Army noise certainly picked up for home games in the second half of the season after the long-awaited takeover of the club was completed, and the club began to turn their season around after a poor start.

The club were 19th and looked destined for another relegation in November last year when Eddie Howe took the reigns as manager, but they ended the season in 11th, fourteen points away from the relegation zone.

Newcastle lost just five of their 19 league games in 2022, with only one of those defeats coming at home, which shows just how important that St James’ Park atmosphere was in the second half of the season for the Magpies.

United will be at home for their first game of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign as they welcome Nottingham Forest to Tyneside for the Reds' first game in the top-flight for 23 years. Howe and his side will be hoping to bring that positive momentum from last season into this one and push for at least a top-half finish this time around.
