Newcastle United squad hint as three players with uncertain futures pose at club photo call

Eddie Howe has started the season with a clutch of squad players with uncertain futures as things hot up ahead of the Premier League's big kick off.

The summer has seen plenty of speculation on players that could leave for pastures new with Martin Dubravka's agent suggesting he won't stay around to be a back-up man and Howe himself admitting that Matt Ritchie could leave.

Matty Longstaff is another to have been linked with EFL clubs but has found himself still at United amid an injury for Jonjo Shelvey. Howe again stated that Longstaff would be a contender to find a club on loan this term.

However, as the new season edges ever closer, all three players found themselves taking part in publicity images with the club's right holders and the trio will all be part of the squad for the opening game or two of the new season. Ritchie's future could be dependant on whether Howe gets his wish to bring in a new wide man.

And Dubravka's next move will be determined by whether Nick Pope starts the campaign as number 1. Dubravka's agent stated in June that he had a number of clubs prepared to sign him in the Premier League and abroad if he wasn't first choice.

Dubravka, speaking to Chronicle Live, said this week: "I have ambitions to play obviously - and I am not going to hide that one, it's the same for everyone. The goalkeeper position is special and unique, only one can be on the pitch. Let's see what life will bring."

Meanwhile, Javier Manquillo, who is arguably third choice right-back after Emil Krafth signed a new deal, has returned to Benton. The Spaniard had been undergoing treatment in Madrid but faces stiff competition from Kieran Trippier and Krafth to start.

Nevertheless, Manquillo was still part of the group of players that posed for pictures for the new season.
