Newcastle United's hopes of signing young West Ham United defender Harrison Ashby on deadline day appear to be unlikely to come to fruition.
First reported by the Daily Mail on Thursday morning, the Magpies have been keen on a move for the young Hammers defender, who has only a year left on his contract, with Newcastle short at right-back due to a long-term injury to Emil Krafth. Both reports of a bid of £2million and a potential loan move have been reported on deadline day.
However, football.london understands that the Hammers are not keen on losing the defender in the summer window and that Ashby, who featured in the Europa Conference League play-off qualifying round first leg win over Viborg last month, is now looking like he will stay at the London Stadium this summer.

Sky Sports have reported that a deal looks unlikely to happen and given the fact the Hammers currently are without Nayef Aguerd until mid-October at the earliest, an exit for Ashby seems unlikely at present.
There was almost a defender merry-go-round at the London Stadium on deadline day, with Craig Dawson reportedly in talks over a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, with the Hammers missing out on signing Jan Bednarek on loan from Southampton, with the Polish defender close to joining Aston Villa, Dawson now seems to be staying put at the London Stadium.
West Ham have also had a deadline day bid of £6.9million rejected by Serie A side Torino to sign former Chelsea right-back Ola Aina. There was also interest in Wolves midfielder Leander Dendoncker, although the Belgian is now closing in on a permanent switch to Villa.
