Newcastle United's summer transfer kitty boosted after Nottingham Forest sign Chris Wood permanently

Newcastle United have sold Chris Wood to Nottingham Forest on a permanent basis after the City Ground side triggered a clause in his loan deal.

Wood left Newcastle for Forest in January on an initial loan deal when the East Midlands side had an obligation to make the deal permanent. It is now understood that just three Premier League appearances have ensured Wood is no longer a Newcastle player.

It means that a fee of around £15million will go into the coffers for United's summer transfer kitty. Wood said his goodbyes to Newcastle last month and was also here for the semi-final win over Southampton in the League Cup.

Wood said after signing for Forest: "Nottingham Forest is a massive club which I have come up against a number of times, but it’s nice now to be able to pull on the red shirt and fight for the club.

"You can see the transition over the past 18 months and it’s progressing in the right way. It’s a project that’s going in the right direction."

Wood had signed for Newcastle just 13 months ago for £25million from Burnley.
