Newcastle United 'ready to walk away' from Diego Carlos transfer and eye other targets

Newcastle United are "ready to walk away from the Diego Carlos deal" according to the latest reports.

Pete Graves of Sky Sports, claims the Toon are growing tired of Sevilla moving the goal posts after originally being quoted €30m for Carlos' signature.

The player is understood to be keen on a move to Tyneside, but the Magpies are keeping their options open and are now "actively looking elsewhere."

That does not necessarily mean a move to St. James' Park won't come to fruition, but the Magpies' frustrations are evident.

Eddie Howe previously said that the club would not be held to ransom over potential transfers, after the Saudi-led takeover made them the richest club in the world.

He said: "You have to draw a line in certain situations and say, 'No, we're not going to pay that money', otherwise where does the game go? It goes to an uncomfortable place, I think," the Magpies boss said.

"It's all about the individual player and judging each situation on individual merits, and that's what we've tried to do."

Graves tweeted: "NUFC ready to walk away from Diego Carlos deal. It's thought original price quoted was €30m but Sevilla changed numerous times.

"Tough on player who's desperate to sign. Newcastle now actively looking elsewhere. They have money, won't be taken advantage of."

He added: "One key thing to add on #nufc. Big offers made this window and still working on more!

"However they MUST know when to walk away. With Botman and Carlos fee's kept rising. Remember with FFP if they OVERSPEND now they have smaller budget in crucial summer window."
