Here are the Newcastle United pre-match headlines on Wednesday, August 31.
Isak cleared to make debut
Newcastle United's club record signing Alexander Isak could make his debut for the Magpies after being granted a work permit in time for tonight's clash against Liverpool.
Despite being registered before 12pm last Friday, the Home Office did not give the 22-year-old international clearance in time for Sunday's 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers. It remains to be seen whether he is thrown in from the start or takes a place on the bench.
Isak completed his move from Real Sociedad last week and took Newcastle's spending above the £200million mark.
Klopp pays Newcastle compliment
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on Newcastle United and Eddie Howe ahead of tonight's clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
Klopp's side go into the game on the back of a 9-0 win over AFC Bournemouth and have an outstanding record in this fixture.
Klopp said ahead of the match: "Tonight we face an opponent who are probably the most improved team in the Premier League this year.
"I have always respected and admired Eddie Howe and the job he is doing at Newcastle United is brilliant. It should not surprise anyone either.
Former Magpies defender "recommended" Isak to Liverpool
Newcastle United record signing Alexander Isak was recommended to Liverpool as a potential transfer target a year before his blockbuster Magpies move by former United defender Jose Enrique.
Enrique believes the 22-year-old fits the ideal 'profile' for what the Magpies require, given Callum Wilson's injury record on Tyneside. The former full-back has also revealed he urged the Reds to move for Isak last year.
He told BoyleSports : "It's a crazy fee but all the fees are crazy right now. Chelsea tried to sign Anthony Gordon for £60m and he's done nothing so far in his career. It's crazy at the moment and that's why I don't criticise the big transfer fees right now.
"Isak is a player I really like and I recommended him to Liverpool last year. He suits the profile of what Newcastle need right now."
Liverpool told to make move for £40 million Toon star
Liverpool should make a late move to sign Newcastle United star Joelinton ahead of the transfer deadline. That is according to former Reds and Magpies midfielder Dietmar Hamann.
Newcastle's former record signing has been a player reborn since the appointment of Eddie Howe last November. Joelinton struggled as a number nine but is now one of the first names on the teamsheet as a powerful box-to-box midfielder and Hamann believes the Brazilian is the 'type of player' Jurgen Klopp needs at Anfield.
Following a, somewhat, underwhelming start to the campaign which has included draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace, Liverpool have turned their attention to adding a new midfielder to their squad in the closing days of the window.
Hamann told GGRecon : "I watched Newcastle United versus Manchester City last week and looking at that I think they need a midfielder with presence. You look at Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Thiago, they're all similar, tidy players, I think they could do with someone like Joelinton from Newcastle.
