Amanda Staveley has reassured Newcastle United fans that the club's wealthy Saudi investors have no interest in buying another Premier League club.
In recent weeks there have been suggestions that the Public Investment Fund could consider selling Newcastle to fund a bid for Manchester United. But co-owner Staveley - who says the consortium have pumped in over £200m of their own money since October 2021 - has dismissed that prospect of buying a rival out of hand.
Speaking at the Financial Times' Business of Football Summit, Staveley was asked whether the wealthy Middle East bidders would consider such a move. Staveley said: "We didn’t go for the wonderful Tottenham, Chelsea or Liverpool because why spend billions?"

And when asked on the speculation about Man United, Staveley said: "I don’t think so."
At the summit, Staveley also confirmed that Newcastle will be screened as part of an Amazon documentary series with the club looking to maximise revenue. The Ripon financier said the club must still cut their cloth accordingly.
She said: "We're doing everything we can to grow our commercial revenue. We inherited very difficult contracts from Fun88 which were very much one way.
"We were limited as to how we could drive the financial revenues. We have had to be prudent because we would have hit our FFP buffers much quicker than other clubs. We have an FFP budget and we stick to that. We can't afford to have a dud player."
