Newcastle United notebook: Key November summit meeting, star linked with January exit & Eddie Howe snub

Newcastle United sporting director Dan Ashworth will hold key talks next month with both the board and Eddie Howe ahead of the January window.

Although, the discussions won't just focus on new players for 2023 as Ashworth feeds back his thoughts following his first few months in the job. The former Brighton & Hove Albion supremo has already made it clear that it isn't just going to be a case of "spend while your winning".

In a round table with journalists this month at St James' Park he indicated it was not sustainable to spend £200million per year on players. But that doesn't mean there won't be money to spend in January if Howe requires it.

The prospects for the next transfer window could be dependent on where the team sit in the table and whether the club think they can push into a European place a little earlier than expected. Ashworth, CEO Darren Eales Amanda Staveley, the Reuben family and members of Saudi backers PIF are expected to be in attendance.

However, a look at how the club's women's team is operating, the loan department and the Academy will also be discussed in the summit meeting.

Eddie Howe not interested in World Cup punditry role

ITV named their World Cup pundit line-up for the tournament in Qatar which included ex-Toon boss Graeme Souness, Ian Wright and Joe Cole to name but a few. BBC Sport will soon follow suit wth their line-up while there are TV companies across the globe putting the final touches to their broadcast teams.

But Howe stated on Friday that he would not be taking up any luxurious trips to the Middle East to gives his views on the tournament. Instead, he stated he will be planning the next phase of Newcastle's development and preparing for warm weather training in Saudi Arabia.

Newcastle United forgotten man attracting interest from Spain

The Magpies will not stand in the way of Javier Manquillo should he wish to return to his native Spain in January. The full-back is deemed as a squad back-up player at the moment with Kieran Trippier performing as one of Europe's top defenders.

Manquillo has not kicked a ball for Newcastle for seven months is wanted by Cadiz in Spain with the minnows looking to bolster their fight against relegation. And they see Manquillo - at 28 - as the type of character that could help them.

The former Liverpool man's agent looked for options in the summer but it was decided he would stay at Newcastle. Howe is not attempting to offload Manquillo and named the full-back on the bench at Spurs.

But should Manquillo request a move back to Spain, United will do all they can to assist him.
