Newcastle United are facing a season-defining day of destiny on Tuesday with matters on and off the pitch to be decided.
The day will start with eyes still on the transfer window but as the hours tick by, the countdown to kick off for the decisive League Cup semi-final second leg will mean the nerves are well and truly jangling. With Newcastle looking to complete the move for incoming Anthony Gordon there could still be a late strike for West Ham's young defender Harrison Ashby.
The outgoing business could see exits for Karl Darlow, who Hull have claimed victory for with a loan move until the end of the season, while Matt Ritchie and Ryan Fraser are also interesting a clutch of clubs. In the Under-21s Niall Brookwell and Matty Bondswell could be possible loan departures too.

Kell Watts suffers painful blow
Having enjoyed a couple of superb years on loan with Plymouth Argyle and Wigan Athletic, Kell Watts has endured a tough time at Peterborough United this term. He missed the early part of the campaign with a knee injury and now looks to have had his season ended by a hamstring problem.
Posh have asked sporting director Dan Ashworth if there is a possibility of sending a replacement down to London Road. Watts is now being assessed by the medical team.
Newcastle set to land windfall after Dan Barlaser move
The Magpies agreed a 50% resale fee for Barlaser when he left Newcastle to join Rotherham in 2020. Now with the Geordie lad set return to the North-East for a fee of £1.5million and sign for Middlesbrough, United could be quids in.
Barlaser has shown what a talent he is with the Millers and will now get the chance to play under Michael Carrick. With Boro looking a good bet for the play-offs this season, the former Toon Under-21 star will be eyeing the bigger stage next season.
