Howe calm about Wilson
Eddie Howe says Callum Wilson will get back to the form that got him to the World Cup finals in Qatar with England. After Wilson had a quiet game - by his own standards - Howe said: "Knowing Callum, no (the lack of goals is not a worry). He’s had very limited training time.
"He had an illness after the World Cup. With Callum, he’s missed big chunks of training, and I think that always affects your sharpness as a player, regardless of position. Callum’s worked really hard for the team, and knowing him as I do, the goals are just around the corner."

Howe is eager to bring in a player that can help bolster his frontline after the exit of Chris Wood to Nottingham Forest. He said: "We’re keen to bring a player in that can help us, but, as we know in this window, and I’ve said many times, there’s no guarantee that will happen."

Lampard coy on Gordon
Frank Lampard refused to answer questions regarding Anthony Gordon's current situation amid a possible move to Newcastle on Saturday evening. The Everton boss opted to leave the 21-year-old on the bench for the entirety of the 2-0 defeat to West Ham as speculation rumbles on over a potential Tyneside switch this month.
"There's a little bit of speculation concerning Anthony Gordon and a possible move to Newcastle," one reporter said to Lampard. "He obviously didn't make it off the bench today. Can you shed any light on that?"
To which Lampard bluntly replied: "No. Sorry, no." Before he had even answered his question, the Chelsea legend was up out of his seat and heading for the door.

Howe on Bruno
Howe has explained his decision to start Bruno Guimaraes against Crystal Palace. The Toon boss stated that Bruno assured him he was strong enough to play at Selhurst Park despite limping out of St James' Park on crutches just six days ago.
Howe said: "The scan was good and then we decided to take it day by day. He trained for the first time yesterday and said he felt 100 per cent fit to play.
"There’s always an element of risk when a player steps onto the pitch but in terms of Bruno’s situation, I definitely wouldn’t want to risk him for the future. But the medical team and Bruno were more than happy for him to play today.
"It’s a big boost, he is a key player for us and has been excellent for us this season. He brings creativity and also a defensive solidity that we’ve done very well with this season. He’s a big player and we’re pleased to have him with us."

Wood decision questioned
Paul Merson has said that he is "flabbergasted" over Newcastle United's decision to allow Chris Wood to leave the club during the January transfer window.
Nottingham Forest confirmed the loan signing of Wood from Newcastle on Friday afternoon for the remainder of the season with an obligation to buy the striker for a reported fee of £15million.
“Flabbergasted. Honestly, flabbergasted,” Merson told Sky Sports. “I like Wilson and Isak. But one’s been out a long time injured [and] the other one, you don’t seem to get a run of games – Wilson – where he’s fit consistently.
“Wood comes in and does the job. He comes across as a good pro. Not just that, he’s at the other end, as well, when he’s defending. When they’re keeping clean sheets, it’s not luck – they defend corners very well. He comes back, he clears stuff.
“For what they’re selling him for, I cannot believe it. It wouldn’t surprise me in three weeks’ time if the two centre-forwards were injured and they haven’t got a forward to put on upfront. If you’re Newcastle, you do the business first and then you get rid of Wood.”

Liverpool record beaten
Newcastle continue to break records as they disrupt the Premier League "big six". However, Saturday's draw against Crystal Palace admittedly felt like two points dropped for Eddie Howe's outfit after a boatload of chances fell the Magpies' way.
Nick Pope and his trusted back line continue to impress - and were ultimately responsible for Newcastle not tasting defeat in the capital. The £10m summer addition has now kept more clean sheets (12) this season than goals conceded (11).
The Magpies have not conceded in the first-half of a Premier League game since August 28th when Ruben Neves found the net for Wolves. An impressive 16 Premier League games without shipping a goal before the interval means Newcastle have matched a record held by Liverpool since 2002.
