Newcastle United named as perfect destination for Man United player struggling for game time

Ally McCoist has told Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard to go out and play football, suggesting Newcastle United as an ideal destination. Lingard has struggled for game time at Old Trafford this season, starting just two matches in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at the Red Devils this summer and has already made it clear he won’t be signing a new one, leaving the door open for a number of clubs to snap him up on a free transfer. Newcastle were interested in taking him on a loan deal in the January window, but Manchester United’s extortionate asking price meant a deal failed to materialise.

The Magpies have already been rumoured to be keen on reigniting their interest this summer but could face stiff competition from elsewhere. Lingard shone on loan at West Ham United last season and should they qualify for Europe again, bolstering their squad depth will be a necessity.

However, speaking on talkSPORT, former Rangers boss McCoist suggested Newcastle as the perfect place for him to find regular game time at a progressive club, which he believes is what he needs at this stage of his career.

He said: “I think it would be a great move for both parties. Jesse, please get out of there and start playing football, it’s what we want to see, it’s what you want to do, it’s what you need to do. We saw your talent when you went down to West Ham, that’s what you’ve got to do - get back playing for yourself. A move to Newcastle, a team that are on the up and are going places, I really do think it makes sense.”
