Newcastle United named as favourites to complete summer swoop for Kieran Tierney

Newcastle United are favourites to sign Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney this summer.

As previously reported by the Chronicle, Tierney was scouted extensively by Newcastle before the takeover and even back then was interested by the prospect of a move from Celtic to Newcastle before Arsenal swooped for £25million.

After falling out of favour with the Gunners, who were challenging for the Premier League title up until a few weeks back, Tierney would now command a fee in the region of £30million and would bolster Newcastle's left-hand side significantly.

The 25-year-old penned a new five-year deal at the Emirates back in the summer of 2021 meaning he still has three years left to run.

But amid a potential summer departure, bookmaker Betfair has now priced up St James' Park as the most likely destination. Eddie Howe's side are chalked up at 8/15 to bring in the full-back before the close of the summer window in September.

Aston Villa (10/1) and champions Manchester City (16/1) are also high up on the list along with West Ham (25/1) his former club Celtic (33/1).

In his final pre-match press conference of the season, Howe straight-batted away any hints on potential summer targets but insisted that some of the players on his wish-list fit into the marquee bracket. Tierney would be one of them but sources at the Arsenal end have made it clear that any discussions on a move to St James' Park are yet to take place.

Tierney started just six league games for Mikel Arteta's side this term.
