Newcastle United monitoring exciting Belgium international winger Jeremy Doku

Newcastle United scouts are keeping tabs on exciting Belgium international winger Jeremy Doku.

Chronicle Live understands that another spending spree is on the cards at St James' Park this summer as Newcastle look to strengthen in every position in the next window.

Doku has been on United's radar before but the £22million rated 19-year-old, who has suffered with both knee and hamstring injuries is being monitored by head of recruitment Steve Nickson and his scouting team.

The Rennes star has 10 Belgium caps and two goals to his name at international level and has been tracked by Liverpool in recent seasons.

Doku can play either left-wing or right-wing and worked under former Newcastle star Craig Bellamy at Anderlecht, where he made a positive impression.

Speaking to the Central Club podcast, Bellamy said: "He was a difficult player.

"Antwerp boy, tough kid, beyond talented.

"Don’t mess with him – you can’t talk down to him, because he’ll just go the other way.

"Get him onside, let him know you care about him because if you care about him, he’ll play like anything for you."

Despite the transfer window shutting last month, Newcastle's links with new players continues with Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze reportedly in for a £45million move to Tyneside in the Daily Mirror.

There are also reports of Hugo Ekitike of Reims being looked at by Chelsea after he opted against a move to Newcastle in the January window.

Although, United have not gave up on the prospect of luring him to Tyneside.
