Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden issues injury update after lengthy recovery from surgery

Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden has taken to social media to give an update on his fitness after a season which has been heavily disrupted by injury. The midfielder wrote on Twitter that his recovery was 'nearly complete' alongside a picture of himself in training kit and holding a football.

Hayden was forced to undergo knee surgery in December and was then left out of the squad for the second half of the season. Eddie Howe was forced to make a tough decision to cut several players following the club's January transfer window spending spree and Hayden's recovery time meant that he was one of those chosen.

Therefore, even though he has recovered from his injury and will soon be back in first-team training, he will not feature in any of the final games of the season.

Hayden joined the club for a fee of just over £2million from Arsenal in 2016/17. He earned a Championship winner's medal in his first season at the club as he played 33 times in the title winning season. Since then he has featured 118 times in the Premier League.

The summer could prove interesting for Hayden, as he is under contract until 2026. However, he is in the group of players Newcastle may be looking to improve on in the transfer window as they hope to climb the division. As such, he could be sold, meaning that he may have already played his final game for the club.
