Newcastle United midfielder Georgia Gibson says scoring at St James’ Park would be a dream come true

Newcastle United midfielder Georgia Gibson says scoring at St James’ Park would be a dream come true as she prepares for today's historic match. Newcastle United Women are playing Alnwick Town at St James’ Park. It is the first time the women’s team has played at the club’s home ground.

Usually the team plays their matches at Druid Park in Woolsington, but they played a match at Kingston Park stadium earlier this year which attracted nearly 3,000 supporters. Gibson told the club’s website that she hoped to get a similar or bigger turnout on Sunday.

She said: “If we can match Kingston Park that would be fantastic. Everyone will have their friends and family there which will make it extra special. The fans are the twelfth player for us so whatever the attendance is, their support will be great.”

The team are currently second in the FA Women's National League Division One North, but are still chasing the title with two matches left to play. Gibson herself has played a significant part in the team’s success this season, grabbing 21 goals, with the hope of more on Sunday.

She said: "That would top it off. It would be really special. As a Newcastle fan, it's what you dream of. If I score then it's fantastic, but I just want to help the team win.”

She added: "There are going to be a lot of emotions, but it will be the proudest moment of my career so far. It is exciting and I can't wait.”

There will be cash turnstiles on Sunday for the East Stand. Entry is £3 for adults and free for juniors. All supporters younger than 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
