Newcastle United linked with Sochaux and France U-19 striker Alan Virginius

Newcastle United have been linked with Sochaux and France U19 striker Alan Virginius. French outlet Le10 Sport report the teenage striker is on the radar of several European clubs which includes Newcastle.

The 19-year-old has impressed during his recent appearances for France's U-19s, scoring three goals and registering three assists at the U-19 European Championships this summer. Virginius' performances helped France reach the semi-finals of the tournament where they were surprisingly knocked out by Israel.

While Virginius scored, the game finished 2-1 to Israel. The Sochaux striker has a year left on his current deal which means he could be available at a cut rate price this summer.

Sochaux have reportedly already received a bid of around €4m for Virginius but are said to be holding out for a fee in the region of €7m-€10m. Newcastle, alongside Club Brugge and Bayer Leverkusen are three of the clubs said to be monitoring the 19-year-old closely.

With his contract set to expire next summer, Newcastle could stand to benefit from the fact Sochaux will not want to lose the promising youngster on a free.
