Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has sent a hilarious message to Erling Haaland after the Manchester City striker scored a brace on his Premier League debut. Big things are expected of the 22-year-old, who is playing senior football in England for the first time.
Shearer, who has scored the most goals in Premier League history with 260, has challenged the Norwegian striker to break his impressive record. Shearer tweeted: "@ErlingHaaland, 258 to go!!!!"
Haaland scored a brace in City's 2-0 win at West Ham, converting a first-half penalty before coolly slotting a shot past Alphonse Areola to double the lead. It would take some effort for Haaland to break Shearer's long-standing record.
If he scored 30 goals in every campaign for nine seasons - that would take him to 270 Premier League goals. Another record that Haaland will be keen to break is another which was set by a Newcastle player.

Andy Cole was the quickest player to reach 50 Premier League goals, managing half a century of strikes in just 65 appearances - with all of those goals scored during his spell as a Newcastle player.
Nobody knows how long Haaland will stay in the Premier League for, but based on his debut, he will be setting his sights on breaking one of those two Premier League records set by former Newcastle strikers.
