Newcastle United injury round-up as Eddie Howe's side prepare for Crystal Palace test

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has provided a fresh injury update ahead of his sides Premier League clash against Crystal Palace tomorrow evening.

The Magpies are bidding to make it three wins from three following recent successes against Wolves and Leicester with some six players still currently sidelined.

A brace from January signing Bruno Guimaraes handed United all three points last time out, with the Brazilian international's late winner coming five minutes into stoppage time.

With just a mere six games until the end of the 21/22 campaign, Howe's side still have both Liverpool and Manchester City to come, before rounding off the season against both Arsenal and Burnley.

Kieran Trippier is still out of action until at least the end of the month, with Magpies fans hopeful of seeing the England international back within the first-team fold following his foot injury.

"Kieran is very slightly ahead of schedule," began Howe earlier this month. "He's beginning to run back on the grass with his boots on so that's a great sign for us. He's still now got to build up his fitness but he's in a good place."

Forward Callum Wilson has also stepped up his return, but again will have to wait a little long, recovering from his own battles with a calf problem.

"Callum is now hitting balls towards the goal with no goalkeeper in. It's only against mannequins but he's gradually building up to where he wants to be so it's great to see,'' added the Newcastle boss.

Isaac Hayden and Jamal Lewis of course remain long-term absentees, but the former Bournemouth head coach did provide one more update more recently on the fitness of Ryan Fraser.

"The plan is to have another scan of his hamstring this week, just to see where the injury is. We had an initial scan, and two conflicting opinions, so we’re re-scanning it."
