Newcastle United injury and suspension update as Toon hope for quadruple boost for Liverpool clash

Following full-time against Bournemouth last week, Newcastle United fans were worried they'd picked up a trio of important injuries to add to their already long list of issues.

But manager Eddie Howe soothed some nerves by claiming that two were just knocks while another seemed a bit more serious as the Magpies prepare to host Liverpool at St. James' Park on Saturday.

With that in mind, here is a look at Newcastle's current full injury list and who could return to face Jurgen Klopp's side this weekend.

Callum Wilson

Wilson sat out the clash on the south coast with a slight hamstring issue, with Howe simply wanting to make sure he'll be fully fit for the vital clash against Liverpool.

What Howe said (Feb 11): "Callum has just got a very minor hamstring complaint. He will miss this game, but we think he will be back for the next one."

Potential return date: 18/02/2023

Bruno Guimaraes

Guimaraes' red card against Southampton in the Carabao Cup semi-final means he'll be missing this clash through suspension - but this is the last match of the three match ban he must serve meaning he'll be available for next week's final at Wembley.

What Howe said (Feb 11): "When you lose one player, you have to readjust, and there will be an opportunity for the team to regroup and find another way. We have three huge PL games he'll miss."

Potential return date: 26/02/2023

Miguel Almiron

Almiron was subbed off after his hand was stamped on against the Cherries but should be ok to return against Liverpool this weekend.

What Howe said (Feb 11): "Miggy and Maxi, I don't think are too bad. Almiron got stamped on his hand, so we think he'll be OK."

Potential return date: 18/02/2023

Allan Saint-Maximin

Saint-Maximin has been troubled with various injury issues over the course of this season and fans thought they'd witnessed another when he fell awkwardly on his leg against Bournemouth. Fortunately, Howe confirmed it was just a knock.

What Howe said (Feb 11): "Miggy and Maxi, I don't think are too bad. Maxi was just a knock."

Potential return date: 18/02/2023

Joe Willock

Willock picked up a knock early on against Bournemouth and while he continued for a little bit, he eventually made way for Anthony Gordon in the 35th minute.

What Howe said (Feb 11): "The concern is Joe, who has gone off with a hamstring problem, so we'll have to wait and see how he is."

Potential return date: Unknown

Jamal Lascelles

Lascelles missed out against Bournemouth due to personal reasons but should be ok to go against Liverpool at the weekend.

Potential return date: 18/02/2023

Matt Targett

Targett has been out with an ankle injury since January and is almost the point of return, although isn't likely to challenge Dan Burn for his position in the starting line-up.

What Howe said (Feb 11): "He's close to training. He's worked hard on his rehabilitation with the physios, and he's getting close to returning to the group."

Potential return date: 26/02/2023

Javier Manquillo

Manquillo picked up a knee issue in training last month and recently flew to Spain to have some injections in order to resolve the problem.

What Howe said (Jan 31): "Javier picked up an injury in training, so he’ll be missing for 3-4 weeks."

Potential return date: 04/03/2023

Emil Krafth

Krafth is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Tranmere in August. He did, however, form part of the travelling party to Saudi Arabia in spite of the, potentially, season-ending blow.

What Howe said (Aug 30): "It's an ACL injury. He's not been operated on yet, so it's difficult to give a firm date, but it's going to be six to nine months. A long time out, which is a huge blow to us."

Potential return date: Unknown
