Newcastle United have an immediate injury concern after Fabian Scha r limped out of St James' Park with a fresh injury after the 1-0 loss to Liverpool.
The Switzerland international did not need the aid of crutches but looked to have suffered a foot injury and after being taken off faces assessment at the training ground in the build-up to the Man City game next Sunday. Although, should he be forced into the treatment room Eddie Howe has Jamaal Lascelles is standing by to return to the heart of his defence alongside Dan Burn.
Schar was at the centre of one of the pivotal incidents in the game after coming off second best in a challenge with James Milner. The moment at first looked like a foul as Schar rolled over half a dozen times but the ref waved play on and Naby Keita went on to score.
When asked about the injury Howe said tonight: "I don't know – it was related to the tackle, I don't know what it is, I haven't spoken to him or the medical team yet. "We hope it's nothing serious, but obviously I was enough for him to come off."
United could also switch Emil Krafth into the centre to accommodate a return for Kieran Trippier. Trippier trained last week but Howe said: "We'll see how his training week progresses. Yes, that training session was yesterday, so he was never going to be in contention to play today, but we'll see how he progresses during the week."
