‘They get Newcastle United’ - NUFC Trust
The Newcastle United Supporters’ Trust (NUST) have spoken to ChronicleLive about the new owners’ ambitious plans for the club. Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi invited leading Trust figures to the St James’ Park boardroom for a 75-minute meeting ahead of Friday night’s game against Wolves.
Greg Tomlinson, the NUST chair, admits to feeling ‘impressed’ at what the co-owners had to say. He said: "They are phenomenal people, they get Newcastle United. They are incredibly ambitious, you cannot fail to be impressed when you spend time in their company.
"They are ambitious, tenacious, and know what they are doing. Taking off your trust hat for a moment, as a Newcastle fan, you leave that room and cannot fail to be excited about the plans that they have, their passion for it and the ambition of the consortium. From a footballing perspective and rebuilding the club, it is exciting times to come."

Newcastle tussle with Arsenal again
Newcastle are battling it out with Arsenal for another Lyon star just three months after pipping the Gunners to signing Bruno Guimaraes. ChronicleLive’s chief sports writer Lee Ryder reports the French club have slapped a £58million price tag on the midfielder - forcing PSG to look elsewhere.
Guimaraes could hold the key to enticing Paqueta to Tyneside, with the Lyon ace in attendance to watch his former teammate in the Magpies’ 2-1 win against Southampton last month. The new mega-rich owners on Tyneside could also offer more money than Arsenal and his demands are believed to be around £180,000 a week.

‘World’s best will not join NUFC’ - Barnes
John Barnes has claimed Newcastle will struggle to attract top players this summer. The former Magpies winger believes Europe’s elite would not consider a move to Tyneside while the club remains a bottom-half Premier League side.
Deals were hard to get over the line in January due to Newcastle’s precarious league position but the club still managed to add three international footballers to their ranks. Supporters are excited about the prospect of a transfer window without the threat of relegation lingering over the club. Barnes, however, expects another frustrating market for the Magpies.
He told BonusCodesBets: “The idea of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in a Newcastle shirt is wrong, because if any of the top players in the world become available, they’ll still go to Liverpool, Manchester City, PSG or Manchester United, before Newcastle.” To read his quotes in full, click here.
