New Anderson deal
Elliot Anderson has penned a new long-term contract to keep him at St James’ Park. The promising youngster has been on the periphery of the first team so far this season and some supporters are calling for him to be in the starting line-up.
Brief cameos have impressed fans and Toon chiefs must also be wowed after offering him an extension. The Whitley Bay native expressed his excitement to the club’s media channel.

"I'm really happy,” Anderson said. “I love playing for Newcastle United, and committing my future to the club is something I've really wanted to do. It was my aim coming back into pre-season to work hard and earn the opportunity to stick around.
“I have really enjoyed being with the first team group, so hopefully I can keep improving and contribute to the team."

Isak trains alone
Eddie Howe will be holding his breath after learning that Alexander Isak trained alone on international duty. Swedish radio station SverigeRadio confirmed his absence from regular training ahead of their Nations League clash against Serbia on Saturday.
The setback has been described as a “little feeling” but he is not ruled out for this weekend’s fixture. Injury woes have already plagued the Magpies’ campaign in 2022-23 with Isak yet to play alongside Callum Wilson or Allan Saint-Maximin.
Getting the trio firing together is the key to get Newcastle’s season back on track after an underwhelming showing against Bournemouth. Howe will be praying the 23-year-old does not join his teammates on the treatment table.

‘No hard feelings’ - Toney
Ivan Toney insists he does not resent Newcastle for offloading him in 2018. Four years ago, the 26-year-old - recently called up by England for the first time - left Tyneside for Peterborough United to pursue first-team football.
Rafa Benitez decided against fielding Toney Premier League promotion - and survival - required experience. Allowing the Brentford man to leave has proven costly as, since his exit, only Mo Salah and Harry Kane have scored more goals in English football.
Speaking to the media before his probable Three Lions debut, Toney said: “That was a factor that did come into play. I felt like ‘you got rid of me, I’m going to show you what I’m capable of when I get the chance, whether it’s a Premier League side – or a League One side’.
"Leaving Newcastle, when I went to Peterborough, was an eye-opener. That was a case of ‘right, I have to turn my game around to get back up, I might see myself as a Premier League player, but I’m a League One player now, I have got to keep fighting and working hard’. And I certainly did that.
“There are no hard feelings, you just have got to get on with it. They have done what they had to do. They felt I wasn’t good enough, so it was up to me to pick myself up and go again.”
