Newcastle United headlines as Ryan Fraser heaps praise on 'unbelievable' Eddie Howe after Brentford win

Here are your Newcastle United evening headlines on Sunday, February 27.

Fraser praises Howe

Newcastle United winger Ryan Fraser has praised Eddie Howe for the impact he's had at St James' Park after he guided his side to a fourth win in five matches at Brentford.

Goals from Joelinton and Joe Willock secured a 2-0 success for the Magpies, who have now moved four points of the relegation zone with an impressive victory.

Fraser has been rejuvinated since Howe's arrival to the club and he believes that there has been a massive change to the team spirit around the changing room.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Fraser said: "It’s been unbelievable. There was a lot of talk when I left Bournemouth, but we’ve always kept a really good relationship and the type of manager and person he is – he’s came in and changed everything.

"Philosophy, togetherness, team spirit – every little thing you can think of he’s came in and changed – to walking into the training ground and seeing things up on the wall that inspire you in the morning.

"Honesty, I could keep you here for days to tell you what he’s changed and it’s been absolutely brilliant. And the lads have taken to it and not looked back really."

Allan Saint-Maximim injury update

Eddie Howe has spoken of Allan Saint-Maximin's fitness levels after he missed the 2-0 win at Brentford.

The winger has been in Monaco getting treatment on a calf injury and has now missed the last two fixtures against West Ham and the Bees on Saturday.

United have managed to pick up four points without Saint-Maximin but if fit Howe has a major dilemma given the Frenchman's star quality.

When asked about Saint-Maximin's fitness, Howe said: "He was some way short. We hoped Allan would make it, but he was some way short in the end.

"We’re now keeping our fingers crossed, and hoping we can get him ready for next week.

"I think he’ll be a lot closer for that game. He’s a massive player for us, and we’re very aware that we need him back, but it’s very good to see the team able to cope.

"If you see the players that are missing, there are some really outstanding individuals, but the team's being strong enough at the moment."

Plans to expand St James' Park

Newcastle United have no plans to move from St James' Park and build a new super stadium - according to the Magpies' new owners.

Instead, the Middle East-backed black and whites are aiming to expand the capacity of St James' Park and want to explore the possibility of taking the current ground beyond it's near 53,000 seats.

Speaking to the Athletic in the first post-takeover interview, Mehrdad Ghodoussi said: "We will definitely look at expanding it.

"We're working with the city and council to see what we can do.

"There are a lot of things that need to happen first, but that’s the way forward.

"If we can get it to 60 or 65,000 thousand, amazing, and we will look at every possibility.

"But are we going to build a new stadium? No. It would be like tearing your soul out."
