Newcastle United's hard work on the training pitch is paying off after another well-worked set piece routine provided the goods against Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon. The Magpies' second goal was another work of art straight born at Darsley Park as Kieran Trippier, Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson combined to double the home side's lead.
Newcastle fans were treated to a similar routine a matter of weeks ago as Bruno Guimaraes headed home at the opposite end of St James' Park after a pinpoint cross from Trippier. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has confirmed there is significant work going on behind the scenes to add an 'element of surprise' against teams.
"It's Jason Tindall, it's Simon Weatherstone, Graeme Jones, Stephen Purchase, they deserve a lot of credit for our innovative set plays," Howe told reporters. "It's something we have always prided ourselves on and a lot of work goes into it.

"It's not just the coaches, it's the analysts as well. It's really a collective effort. I'm delighted when they work, though not every one is going to but the element of surprise is important in our routines."
Speaking after the win, Wilson was asked about his England chances after notching a brace in front of Gareth Southgate at St James' Park.
Wilson said: "It was a great performance. In the second half we blew them away. We don't get carried away. We have to keep this form going. I have said many times I will not talk my way into the England squad. I will let my performances do the talking."
