Loris Karius 8

A busy night on his debut as he was forced to make some routine saves and a stop from point blank range to deny former Watford star Odion Ighalo. An impressive debut.

Javier Manquillo 7

A solid enough display as he looks to build a case for more game-time at right-back. But faces near impossble task to dislodge Kieran Trippier.

Jamaal Lascelles 7

Recovered from one early scare before putting in a sturdy display.

Sven Botman 8

Usual ice cool stuff from the Dutchman as he played the ball out of defence with ease.

Jamal Lewis 7

A much-needed extended run out after a season of frustration on the sidelines. Some good overlapping runs as he provided a threat.

Jonjo Shelvey 7

Sat back and absorbed the pressure as he looked to pick passes. Replaced midway through second half. Important minutes in the tank.

Joe Willock 8

An energetic display from the midfielder. Playing some excellent balls into the box and a superb pass for Joelinton's second. Had the ball in the net after the break only to be denied by the flag.

Joelinton 9

Two goals. A bullet header and a scruffy finish, the second one might benefit him more.

Jacob Murphy 8

Lively opening half. Almost scored and then created the opener.

Allan Saint-Maximin 7

Has been a threat, Switched to a central role after Wood injury. Had some good moments.

Chris Wood 6

One ball through for Murphy but didn't really get going before coming off injured.

Subs

Sean Longstaff 8 (for Wood 39)

A sumptuous pass for Almiron volley. A good work out.

Mark Gillespie 7 (for Karius 46)

Still required to make some fine saves.

Miguel Almiron 9 (for Murphy 46)

Came off the bench to steal the show with a fine weave into the box and stunning volley. Also hit the bar. Man of the match.

Elliot Anderson 7 (for Joelinton 56)

Denied by the post. A good show.

Dan Burn 7 (for Botman 60)

A steady display.

Ryan Fraser 8 (for Willock 60)

A bright display and assist.

Joe White 7 (for Shelvey 65)

Didn't get into the game like we know he can. A decent effort though.

Dylan Stephenson (for Saint-Maximin 78)

Alex Murphy (for Lewis 78)

Jay Turner-Cooke (for Lascelles 87)

Lewis Miley (for Manquillo 87)

*Subs must play 15 minutes to get a mak.
