Newcastle United given massive support in transfer activity

Eddie Howe's staff have made a series successful deals and shown savvy by loaning out second-string players to keep the club’s finances churning and free up squad places. And the few signings completed so far have seen a massive swelling of support from the club’s fans.

More than 19,000 supporters so far have had their say on Newcastle’s transfer activity in our Good Deal/Bad Deal survey. And from this recent update, you can see the faith the club’s fanbase have in Howe and his squad, with every transfer rated a good deal by more than 85% of respondents.

Newcastle’s biggest purchase was Lille centre-back, Sven Botman. The 22 year-old cost just shy of £35m and was the first of Howe's back-line upgrades before deadline day. The Dutch youngster’s arrival has been hailed as a good deal by almost 96% of fans as the Magpies seek to level up across the board.

But the arrival that has been near-unanimously approved by fans is that of keeper Nick Pope. The 30 year-old made the move from Burnley in a £10m deal that might have been the most valuable to the squad from this window, as the Englishman has played every minute of Newcastle’s opening fixtures.

Nearly 98% of supporters thought Pope’s signing was a good deal by Howe's team, and if you look at his recent form it doesn’t take a genius to work out why. Meanwhile the exit of another keeper has seen similar support by fans.

Freddie Woodman moved to Preston this window, in a deal that was rated worthwhile by 88% of supporters. It’s fair to say fans have cheered on this upgrade in Newcastle’s net which should ensure a decent haul of clean sheets this season.

One player fans have been particularly keen to see the back of, if only temporarily, is Ciaran Clark. The centre-back’s loan to Sheffield has freed up some much needed space in Newcastle’s defensive line, and the deal was rated as good by 92% of fans.
