Newcastle United fans have predicted that forward Dwight Gayle could be on the move in the final hours of the transfer window, amid links to Nottingham Forest.
Steve Cooper ’s side are said to be ‘keen’ on a deadline day move for the striker, after injury to main striker Lewis Grabban in Sunday’s defeat against Cardiff.
Grabban limped off the pitch in the second half of the match, leaving Forest sweating on his fitness.
The injury could prompt Cooper to make a deadline day move for a striker, with reports suggesting that Forest are one of the clubs interested in the 32-year-old.
Newcastle are reportedly keen on adding a new forward of their own in the final hours of the window with the Magpies linked with a move for Reimes forward Hugo Etitike.
Should that move go through, Newcastle fans believe that could open up a move for Gayle before the end of the window.
Here’s what some had to say.
Conor Elliott : If we do sign Hugo Etitike today that has to mean that Dwight Gayle must be leaving #NUFC.
Andrew McVittie : With the moves we've made, we have a great opportunity to get rid of players with no big future at the club. The likes of Hendrick, Ritchie, Clark, and Gayle must go today. The balance of players on the precipice can be re-evaluated in the summer. #nufc
Paul Day : Ekitike means Gayle leaves today. #NUFC
Daniel : Woodman, Ritchie, Clark, Hendrick, Anderson and Matty Longstaff the ones to leave tomorrow? Gayle maybe if another striker comes in.. #NUFC
Nottingham Forest fans have also given their reaction to the links to Gayle, with many keen to see the move happen.
Luke : Oh god the annual Dwight Gayle interest would take him if grabs is out for@some time #nffc
Sam : I see the Dwight Gayle rumours are doing the rounds. Would be ok if Grabban's injury is a bad one, other than that no, again. #NFFC
Owen Wilkinson : If forest manage to bring in Wallace bowler and gayle the play offs could still be a possibility imo
#nffc
WJ : Dwight Gayle would be some signing. Statement of intent from @NFFC #nffc
