Newcastle United fans go wild over 'unreal' £15m transfer fee as Chris Wood joins Forest

Newcastle United fans could not hide their excitement after the club received a reported transfer fee of £15million from Nottingham Forest to sign Chris Wood, as they thanked the forward for his time at St James' Park.

Steve Cooper's side confirmed the loan signing of Wood from Newcastle on Friday afternoon for the remainder of the season with an obligation to buy the striker for a reported fee of £15m. Wood played a vital role in the Magpies' relegation battle last season when he signed for the club from Burnley for £25m last January.

During his 12 months in the north east, the New Zealand international found the back of the net five times in 39 appearances for Eddie Howe's side. The 31-year-old has only started six matches for Newcastle across all competitions this season as he saw his game time diminish.

Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak both find themselves ahead of Wood in the pecking order as the centre forward goes in search of more minutes at the City Ground with Forest. The newly promoted side would have been thrilled to get the deal over the line as they look set to be without £17million forward Taiwo Awoniyi for seven or eight weeks, after he picked up a groin injury.

Howe has since stressed that they will replace Wood in the January window as he admitted that his departure leaves the team "dangerously short".

Even though the 6ft 3in striker was only at St James' Park for a year, fans could not help but both pay tribute for his service and also marvel at the amount of money they managed to get for their third-choice centre forward. As the news broke, supporters took to social media to share their thoughts on the deal.
