Newcastle United fans have expressed their pride at the fact three Magpies players have been named in the England squad for the upcoming World Cup. Kieran Trippier, Nick Pope and Callum Wilson have all this afternoon received the call-up, with the latter set to represent the Three Lions at a major international tournament for the first time.
Trippier has been a staple of Gareth Southgate's squad in the last few years, while Pope was among England's goalkeeping options at the World Cup in 2018. Wilson, though, has been capped just four times at international level and has endured a nervy few days with Ivan Toney and Tammy Abraham also vying for that second striker role behind Harry Kane.
The 30-year-old is the man who has been given the nod though after his excellent start to the season that has seen him score six goals in 10 Premier League matches. Here is what Newcastle supporters have been saying after the announcement.
