Newcastle United supporters have called for Alexander Isak to be 'unleashed' against Manchester United after the forward put in a fine performance during Sweden's 5-0 victory over Azerbaijan.
Emil Forsberg opened the scoring for the hosts in the 38th minute with a fine curling effort into the far corner as Sweden headed down the tunnel 1-0 up at half-time. The floodgates then proceeded to open in the second-half and it was Isak who started to turn the tide his country's way as the handbrake came off for Janne Andersson's side in the final 25 minutes.
The Newcastle forward chased down a flick on from Viktor Gyokeres down the right-hand side of the area as he used his acceleration to stretch away from the defender, firing in a low cross of such quality into the box that it could only be turned home as an own goal.
Gyokeres would get a goal of his own in the 78th minute before Jesper Karlsson scored the pick of the bunch as he fired home a sensational free-kick from 35-yards out two minutes from time. Manchester United youngster Anthony Elanga would add a fifth and final Sweden goal in the dying moments to seal a comfortable victory for the home side at the Friends Arena.
Isak himself was brought off after 70 minutes, no doubt much to the delight of Eddie Howe, as he managed to get through the international break without injury. The 23-year-old was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself after having an earlier strike ruled out for offside, but even with the disallowed effort there was no denying what was a superb performance for the Newcastle striker.
And it did not take long before the Toon Army took to social media to heap praise on Isak for what they saw as the perfect warm-up ahead of the clash with Man United at St James' Park on Sunday.
