Newcastle United have been handed a great chance to start the season with a victory after the Premier League fixture computer handed them a home opener against newly promoted Nottingham Forest on August 6. The game has been overlooked for TV coverage with a 3pm start and not selected for Friday night, Saturday teatime or Super Sunday coverage.
Forest won the Sky Bet Championship play-offs to return to the Premier League for the first time since 1999 when Steve Cooper's side beat Huddersfield Town at Wembley last month.
The Magpies will then head to Brighton & Hove Albion for their first away game a week later before a tough home test against the Pep Guardiola's Manchester City before trips to Wolverhampton Wanderers and double domestic cup champions Liverpool to round off what Eddie Howe will deem a tricky start.

September sees United face Crystal Palace and Howe's old club Bournemouth in September with a testing trip to West Ham also to come in the second month of the season. October sees the first trip back to another promoted side in Fulham.
This year's Boxing Day clash will be away to Leicester City while there is home game with Leeds pencilled in for New Year's Eve. The first away game of 2023 is away to Arsenal on January 2.
The longest trip of the season at Bournemouth is currently scheduled for February 11. Other notable trips in March will see Newcastle visit the champions City early in the month with the first Premier League game between United and Forest at the City Ground to follow on March 18.
The Magpies will also have a tough finish to the season with their clash at Leeds kicking off May before a home clash with Leicester City a week later. The season will finish with a clash at Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on May 28.
