Here are the latest Newcastle United headlines for Thursday, June 22, 2023.
Tonali deal close
Newcastle are now at the final steps of a deal to sign AC Miland midfielder Sandro Tonali. While it is effectively not done yet, it is heading in the right direction.
Not many Milan supporters expected Tonali to leave his beloved Rossoneri but the offer of personal terms to the midfielder is an offer of a lifetime. With Tonali's agent also swiftly providing Milan with a replacement in Davide Frattesi of Sassulolo it has turned into a transfer saga for reporters in Italy.
Newcastle's backroom team could quite easily complete the medical and the formalities of the deal in Romania too. In some ways that will be the more straight-forward part. It now boils down to the transfer fee and deal structure.
Wilson focused
Newcastle United star Callum Wilson says he will keep his feet on the ground when the 2023/24 season kicks off. The Toon No 9 netted 18 goals - his best ever Premier League tally - and became the highest scorer in a season since the days of Alan Shearer on Tyneside. But Wilson is eager to better that next term and says that failing to get into the 20s last season will drive him on.
Wilson told reporters: "Personally 18 was my highest in the Premier League. I am disappointed not to get to 20. But it gives me more hunger to try to go again next season and achieve that goal.
"Nothing changes for me, for me to get where I am, you keep working hard. You keep working hard and keep feet on the ground."
