Newcastle United evening headlines as Shearer statue returns and Bruno sends transfer message

A look at the latest Newcastle United headlines on Tuesday, May 17.

Alan Shearer (statue) is finally home!

Alan Shearer is finally home! Well, his statue is anyway.

Moved just outside of the St James' Park grounds by previous Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley, whom Shearer was publicly critical of, the statue of the Magpies greatest ever goalscorer sat on Barrack Road.

It has been on the boundary of St James' for the last six years.

However, it has now made it's way back onto the grounds of the stadium and is positioned adjacent to the statue of Sir Bobby Robson.

Bruno Guimaraes sends clear message to Newcastle bosses over Matt Targett future

Targett has been a superb addition to Newcastle's backline this season. Signed in January on loan from Aston Villa, he fitted seamlessly into the starting XI, helping to solidify Newcastle's defence.

"I think everyone knows what I want!" Targett joked after Guimaraes' intervention. "It's up to the club. It's a massive project, an exciting project and I think everyone wants to be a part of it."

‘He’s been a revelation’ - Jamie Carragher on Joelinton’s resurgence at Newcastle United

Imagine if at the start of the season you told Newcastle United fans that Joelinton would win the Magpies player of the season?

The Brazilian has been nothing short of magnificent since his transformation into a box to box midfielder under Eddie Howe with his performances helping him to pick up the clubs player of the year award.

One pundit who has heaped praise on Joelinton was Jamie Carragher, who labbeled the Brazilian as a "revelation".

“He’s (Joelinton) been a revelation," said Carragher. “This was a player written off as a flop, a £40m player, striker, never scored a goal. He’s gone into midfield and looked like a real player.

"Newcastle will spend in the summer but he will still be the heartbeat of this football team. Credit to him but credit to Eddie Howe.”
