A look at the latest Newcastle United headlines on Monday, April 10.
Leicester City 'open talks' with ex-Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez over vacant manager job
Leicester City have reportedly opened talks with former Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez over the managerial vacancy at the King Power Stadium.
Brendan Rodgers left the club by mutual consent following Leicester's 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on April 1. The Foxes have gone onto lose against Aston Villa and Bournemouth since his departure, and are still on the look-out for a new manager.
Jesse Marsch was the frontrunner for the job, and even attended the defeat against Bournemouth as the former Leeds boss entered talks with the club. However, the American has since turned down the chance to replace Rodgers, and Leicester have quickly turned their attentions elsewhere.
Ally McCoist labels Joelinton's Newcastle United transformation as best he's ever seen
Ally McCoist says he's never seen such a huge transformation of a player than Joelinton at Newcastle United since Eddie Howe arrived at the club.
Joelinton has been handed a new lease of life by Howe, who transformed him from a misfiring striker to a box-to-box midfielder. The Brazilian netted twice in Newcastle's 5-1 win over West Ham United at the London Stadium last week, and played an instrumental role in the Magpies' first goal in Saturday's 2-1 win over Brentford.
Newcastle had been trailing 1-0 when Joelinton surged inside from the right and saw his effort take a telling deflection off David Raya, who was credited with the own goal.
Newcastle United legend tells club they 'don't need' Harry Kane amid Alexander Isak's form
Andy Cole has claimed Newcastle United 'don't need' Harry Kane when they already have Alexander Isak leading the line.
Isak's debut season at St James' Park has been partially marred by injury, but the Swede has marked his return to action since the turn of the year in style.
The 23-year-old has found the net five times in as many games and has bagged eight league goals in 13 appearances in total.
Unai Emery issues warning to Aston Villa players ahead of facing ‘big team’ Newcastle United
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has warned his side that a push for European football is going to be difficult when they have to play "big teams" like Newcastle United.
Only league leaders Arsenal have recorded more points in the Premier League than Villa since Emery took charge back in October last year. A 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon has seen them climb up into sixth place, just six points behind Tottenham in fifth.
Emery has overseen a revival at Villa Park having taken over when the club were languishing in 15th. Rather than worrying about a potential relegation battle, the former Arsenal manager is now targeting a potential return to European football next season.
Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon told to put substitution anger 'behind him'
Micah Richards has told Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon that he can put his anger "behind him" after he reacted badly to being substituted by Eddie Howe during the 2-1 win against Brentford.
The Magpies had to fight back from a goal down at the Gtech Community Stadium after Ivan Toney put the Bees ahead from the penalty spot on the second time of asking. Howe decided his side needed a tactical rethink as he introduced Gordon and Callum Wilson at half-time.
The changes worked perfectly as Newcastle found themselves 2-1 up just after the hour mark through a David Raya own goal and a well-taken finish from the in-form Alexander Isak. Despite only coming on at half-time, Howe would then take Gordon off for Matt Ritchie in the dying moments.
Manchester United and Tottenham bosses lose their rag as Eddie Howe stays ice cold in Newcastle win
Newcastle United's hard-fought 2-1 win at Brentford means the Magpies continue to hold onto third place in the Premier League. Their two closest rivals Manchester United and Tottenham also picked up three points against Everton and Brighton respectively but the cracks may be appearing to show.
Manchester United's 2-0 win came at a cost as star man Marcus Rashford limped off with a suspected groin issue. The England international has 28 goals in all competitions this season and has spearheaded the Red Devils' charge towards a top four spot.
Rashford's injury left Erik ten Hag unhappy with the Premier League schedule as the Dutchman bemoaned the fact his team have had to play three times in a week, including late on Sunday and early on Saturday.
Joelinton edges out Newcastle United teammates as supporters issue positive player ratings
Newcastle United supporters have picked out Joelinton as their player of the match during the 2-1 win over Brentford after they gave the Brazilian a rating of 8.3 out of 10 for his performance at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Despite going down officially as a David Raya own goal, it was Joelinton's ball across the face of the goal that led the Bees keeper to turn into his own net and start the Magpies comeback. Alexander Isak - the second highest rated player from the game with a score of 8.2 - would go on to score the winner in the 61st minute with a sublime finish into the top corner.
Nick Pope also played an instrumental role in the victory after he became the first goalkeeper to save an Ivan Toney penalty in the Premier League, seeing him pick up a rating of 7.9 from the fans. Half-time substitute Callum Wilson would also receive the same score after he set up Isak for the second Newcastle goal.
