Newcastle United evening headlines amid Moussa Diaby transfer latest as Bruno comparison made

A round-up of the latest Newcastle United headlines on Wednesday, October 12.

Newcastle United's Kieran Trippier emerges as England's saviour as Gareth Southgate problems mount

Kieran Trippier looks set to play a huge role for England at the 2022 Qatar World Cup next month as Gareth Southgate watches on as his right-back issues mount up. Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James have all suffered injury problems in recent days with just over one month to go until the winter showpiece.

James limped off during Chelsea 's 2-0 win over AC Milan on Tuesday, with Blues boss Graham Potter admitting it was too soon to give a full diagnosis on the full-back. Liverpool 's Alexander-Arnold has been under-fire in recent weeks and is now set to miss up to a month of football with a foot injury picked up against Arsenal on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Manchester City full-back Walker has undergone surgery on a groin injury suffered in the 6-3 defeat to Manchester United earlier in the month. Luckily for Southgate, Trippier looks to have found his best form at club level after an impressive start to the season for Newcastle.

Eddie Howe's Newcastle appointment best takeover decision made by owners

Newcastle United supporters are in agreement that Eddie Howe is the best decision the Magpies' owners have had since taking over at the club. It's been an incredible year for black and white supporters, going from the brink of relegation to a near top-half finish.

The Magpies have made a solid start to the current campaign and are in the top six after nine rounds of fixtures - a feat that would have been almost unimaginable 12 months ago with Newcastle yet to win a game. Around 5,718, people took part in our one-year takeover anniversary survey.

Of those, 4,406 people (77%) said that appointing Howe was the best decision to owners had made and who can argue with that? The former Bournemouth boss arrived on Tyneside with his stock low having been relegated with the Cherries and question marks over his appointment.

Fabian Schar's scary message ahead of Newcastle United clash away to Manchester United

Fabian Schar has played down talk that Newcastle United are in good form - and insists he and his team-mates have some way to go before they hit the levels they are looking for.

With Newcastle in the top six and having scored nine goals in two matches, Schar's take on the situation ahead of Sunday's trip to Manchester United underlines the experience that United have in the dressing room these days. The 30-year-old is certainly one of the senior heads in the background and is keen to keep people's feet on the ground.

Speaking after the thumping 5-1 win over Brentford, Schar said: "To be honest, it wasn’t our best game in terms of how we played with the ball.

Scotland eager to show Elliot Anderson he is 'part of future' ahead of senior friendly vs Turkey

Newcastle United youngster Elliot Anderson could be in line for an international call-up next month.

The Toon youngster was wanted by Scotland for their UEFA Nations League games against Ukraine and the Republic of Ireland but after the Scottish Under-21s learned of a hamstring injury, Steve Clarke had to call off the chance of promoting him to the seniors. Anderson has previously represented England and Scotland at youth level but is yet to win a competitive cap with either but is now under serious consideration and has been monitored closely by Clarke and his scouts.

Scotland have looked at Anderson this season and feel he is getting closer to playing for Clarke's side at senior level. If Anderson remains fit he could be called up by Clarke for November's friendly game away to Turkey in Diyarbakır.

Two qualities Eddie Howe has improved to bring ‘joy’ back to Newcastle amid top seven prediction

Pundits Robbie Earle and Robbie Mustoe have praised Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe in bringing the 'joy' back to St. James' Park after their 5-1 win over Brentford.

Goals from Jacob Murphy, Miguel Almiron and a brace from Brazilian maestro Bruno Guimaraes coupled with an own goal from Bees defender Ethan Pinnock meant all three points for the hosts as they moved up the Premier League table.

Speaking on The 2 Robbies podcast, Mustoe praised Howe's ability to bring out the most in his players and how their recent performances have bought back the best feelings for the fans.

Newcastle United hero Bruno Guimaraes a 'consistent' version of Hatem Ben Arfa

Former Sunderland forward Darren Bent has delivered an interesting comparison between Hatem Ben Arfa and Newcastle's star midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Guimaraes scored a brace at the weekend to cap a sensational display in Newcastle's 5-1 victory over Brentford at St James' Park on Saturday. His performance received raving reviews from a number of his peers, as well as a few notable football pundits.

Bent, who scored 32 times for Newcastle's bitter rivals Sunderland, believes Guimaraes' style is reminiscent of Ben Arfa, although he added that Guimaraes has more consistency to his game.

Newcastle give Bruno Guimaraes what Mike Ashley couldn't as Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal sigh

Bruno Guimaraes set out to become a legend at Newcastle United and the midfielder is already on his way to doing just that. That really is saying something after just nine months at the club.

Bruno is not just doing his talking on the field, either, and, after delivering a man of the match display against Brentford on Saturday, the Brazil international described links to Real Madrid as 'nothing'. Bruno went on to declare that Newcastle will be 'one of the best projects in the world'.

Bruno feels at home on Tyneside and has received the sort of welcome he would struggle to find elsewhere in Europe. Where else would the 24-year-old have his name chanted when he makes a tackle or a smart pass?

Bayer Leverkusen reveal Moussa Diaby bid truth as 'a lot of scouts' watch Newcastle target

Bayer Leverkusen did not receive any offers from Newcastle United for Moussa Diaby last summer as 'a lot of scouts' continue to track the France international.

Newcastle have long been admirers of Diaby and it is easy to see why after the rapid forward was directly involved in 32 goals for Leverkusen last season. However, Leverkusen's valuation meant that a deal was always going to be unlikely last summer given how Diaby still had three years left on his contract at the time.

It is also worth noting that Diaby wanted to play in the Champions League and the 23-year-old was wary of moving abroad in a World Cup year given the upheaval involved and the fierce competition for places at international level. Diaby was ultimately left out of the France squad last month at a time when Leverkusen were struggling under Gerardo Seoane, who won just one of his opening dozen games in all competitions this season.
