Newcastle United 'enquire' about Stade Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana

Newcastle United have enquired about Stade Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, according to the Daily Mail. Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that the Magpies were preparing an improved offer for Leeds United winger Jack Harrison but the Mail have reported that Newcastle are put off by their £35m valuation.

The Ghanaian international, who already has 11 caps for his country, has been linked with a number of clubs, including Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen. The 20-year-old featured 27 times in all competitions for Rennes last term, scoring five goals and providing two assists.

Sulemana scored just 14 minutes into his Ligue 1 debut as Rennes drew 1-1 against RC Lens in August 2021. He bagged his first brace for the club in a 6-0 demolition of Clermont Foot and also scored the winning goal against Vitesse Arnhem to open his European goal scoring account in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Rennes paid £17m for Sulemana last summer and the winger is now valued at around £30m. His sale from Nordsjaelland broke the Danish transfer record as Rennes beat a number of clubs to his signature.

The French outfit have a good track record at improving talent with the recent examples of Jeremy Doku, Raphinha and Eduardo Camavinga. Sulemana arrived in Europe from Ghana’s famous Right to Dream academy in February 2020 and made an immediate impact with 14 goals in 43 appearances for Nordsjaelland.
