Newcastle United duo Dan Burn and Nick Pope nominated for Premier League awards

Newcastle United duo Dan Burn and Nick Pope have been rewarded for their fine form with respective nominations for the Premier League Player of the Month and Save of the Month award for January.

Burn has been an instrumental part of a back-four that has not conceded a single goal in the league this month. Newcastle even faced a trip to the Emirates Stadium in January and managed to become the first team this season to stop the league leaders from scoring across all competitions this term.

Away from the top-flight, Burn also fulfilled a childhood dream of scoring in front of the Gallowgate End during the 2-0 win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup quarter-final. The former Brighton man knows that his side are just one more clean sheet away from reaching a Wembley final, having beaten Southampton 1-0 in the first leg of their semi-final.

Alongside Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman and Fabian Schar; Eddie Howe's defence has the best record in the entire league for both goals conceded (11) and clean sheets (12). Pope has also played a vital role, with the Magpies shot-stopper going a staggering 10 consecutive games without conceding.

Although there are many to choose from, it was Pope's superb reflex save to deny Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta during the 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park that was nominated for the award.
